Dear TASAM President, Dear Dean, Distinguished Speakers, Esteemed Participants and Press Members,
Welcome to the 9th Istanbul Security Conference and its co-events, organized by TASAM (Turkish-Asian Strategic Research Center) and hosted by Istanbul Kent University, in our Kağıthane campus. I hope that this conference, where the strategic transformation in the ecosystem will be discussed in detail, will be enjoyable and productive. First of all, I would like to briefly introduce our university to you.
Today, we have gathered at the brand new Kağıthane Campus, which Istanbul Kent University put into operation in September 2022. Our campus is a modern, high-tech and environmentally friendly structure that embodies our strong commitment to the United Nations' Sustainable Development goals. We are very proud to have brought such an important higher education and scientific research environment to both our country and the international community. Our Taksim Campus, which is the point where the story of Istanbul Kent University begins and is only twenty minutes away from here, is the heart of our distinguished city Istanbul and even the heart of the world, both in terms of the main campus of our University and its strategic location.
Istanbul Kent University is the first project of the Barrier-Free Education Foundation, which was established under the leadership of the precious wives of our late Prime Minister, Mr. Mesut Yılmaz, Mr. Berna Yılmaz, their sons, the late Mr. Yavuz Yılmaz, and the brothers Mr. Hasan and Ceren Yılmaz, who always made their material and moral contributions.
Our university started its seventh academic year just a few weeks ago and is one of the youngest universities in Turkey.
Today, our University has five faculties including Economics, Administrative Social Sciences, Health Sciences, Dentistry, Art Design and Pharmacy, two vocational schools, one of which is in the field of health, a graduate education institute, the school of foreign languages and (KÜYEM) Kent University Lifelong Learning Center. It contains.
Currently, there are 25 undergraduate, 15 associate degree, 19 master's and 5 doctoral programs at our University, together with the increasing number of English departments. According to current data, approximately 8500 students continue their education at our University. Almost 1,900 of these students are international students from 57 different countries.
Our university, which was founded with a focus on the field of health, has today become a candidate to be at the forefront in many Social Sciences fields, especially Political Science and International Relations, Business, Public Relations and Advertising and Psychology, and is recognized not only in Turkey but also internationally. It includes very valuable academicians.
One of the most important principles adopted by our university is to be inclusive and welcoming for everyone, especially individuals with disabilities. Positive discrimination towards our disabled students means a lot to our university.
In parallel with this principle, we always wholeheartedly embrace the necessity, value and impact of women in all sectors. Therefore, we take care to encourage the admission of female students to our university, the employment of women at all levels of our institution and their inspiring initiatives.
Before I finish my words, I would like to express this; How happy we are that today we can hold this conference at the university of our esteemed prime minister, Mr. Mesut Yılmaz, who has served his country wholeheartedly by taking responsibility for the development of Turkey in every field.
In your presence, I once again wish God's mercy to our late Prime Minister and his precious son, brother Yavuz. May they rest in peace.
As I conclude my words, I hope that you will all appreciate today's program with the participation of world-renowned expert speakers in their fields.
While I congratulate the 100th anniversary of our Republic with my most heartfelt feelings, I commemorate our Great Leader Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and each of our National Struggle Heroes with respect and gratitude.
