Before his departure to Tehran, Chairman of TASAM Süleyman Şensoy remarked that “ A new concept approach to Iran – Turkey relations is needed, regional powers should understand and communicate with each other, Turkish – Iranian economic relations which have been developing especially for last 10 years are needed to be augmented, improving economic relations reflect credit upon political relations, a new empathized approach which prioritizes concerns, priorities and dependencies of both countries is needed” are stated in 8th Turkey – Iran Round Table Meeting Result Report. Şensoy continued that those are needed more than ever due to latest developments in the region.

Şensoy underlined that one-sided competition is not beneficial, competition must be transformed into cooperation and especially mutual dependency is the only reliable method. He added, “ All bilateral relations which could not develop direct communication, improved and deepened ties are open to manipulations of third parties.”

Şensoy specified that any kind of instability in the region would not serve interests of both countries, especially instability in Syria and Iraq will influence economic and political stability of both countries negatively in short term, midterm and long term; preventive cooperation is required more than ever to eliminate the possibility of a chaos without winners in the region, especially in terms of sectarian dimension.
