The 2nd Turkish – Latin American and Caribbean Congress will be held in Ankara with the aim of contributing to the multidimensional expansion of Turkey by the participation of various statesmen, artists, businessmen, academicians and diplomatic representatives from the countries of the region.
The congress, organized by the cooperation of Turkish Asian Center for Strategic Studies TASAM and Research and Implementation Center for Latin American Studies of Ankara University LAMER, will be held in the 100th Year Auditorium of Ankara University Rectorate between the 23th and 25th of September.
The opening statements of the 2nd Turkish – Latin American and Caribbean Congress will be presented by the Minister of State Zafer Çağlayan, Coordinator of Latin American and Carribbean Studies of the Foreign Ministry – Ambassador Osman Ulukan, the Rector of Ankara University Prof. Dr. Cemal Taluğ, Ankara Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Brasil and the Dean of Diplomatic Corps of Latin American Ambassadors Marcelo Andrade de Moraes Jardim, Director of the Research and Implementation Center for Latin American Studies Asst. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Necati Kutlu and the Chairman of TASAM Süleyman Şensoy.
The 2nd Congress, having the main theme of “Economic Integration, Cooperation and Development in Latin America and Carribbean“, will be held by the participation of various businessmen, statesmen, artists, businessmen, academicians, researchers, experts and diplomatic representatives from Latin America and Caribbean countries as well as the representatives of related Turkish public institutions such as the Turkish Prime Ministry, Foreign Affairs Ministry, Culture and Tourism Ministry, National Education Ministry, Undersecretariat of Foreign Trade, TIKA and numerous institutions such as TOBB, DEİK, TÜSİAD, MÜSİAD, İTO, EXİMBANK.
Chairman of TASAM, Süleyman Şensoy, expressed in his related declaration that Turkey has been establishing economic and political relations in terms of its multidimensional foreign policy, not only with its close neighbours but the remote countries all around the world as well, and this is a must for our country that has to think in the big dimension in today’s world conjuncture. Chairman Şensoy declared that the political conclusion of the initiative that has been developed between Turkey and Brasil around the nuclear program in Iran has been an historical step.
“When the fact that Latin American and Caribbean Region is an emerging market and an economic development area thanks to its 33 countries and economic growth of approximately 2 trillion dollars is taken into consideration, the importance of establishing amicable relations with the region gets more explicit“ he says. Stating that the current trade volume of 6 billion dollars between the parties might reach upto a point of 40 – 70 billion dollars in accordance with the 2023 TASAM projection, Chairman Şensoy continued as “As we regard the fact that the region is not sufficiently recognized and realized in our country, the initiatives of TASAM and similar organizations become vital on the way to overcome our sociological ‘intellectual thresholds’“.
The session titles of the Congress that will be followed by many Turkish companies will be as follows: “Economic Integration and Institutionalization in Latin America and Carribbean“, “Integration Institutions in Latin America and Carribbean“, “Cooperation in the Field of Development Between Latin America and Carribbean – Turkey“ and “Cooperation Perspectives in Turkey - Latin America and Carribbean“.
Important personalities such as Auraro Adame, the Director of COMEXI, dependent to the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Mexico, Carlos Malamud from Real Instituto Elcano – Spain, Dr. Deisi Kusztra, the Chairman of World Family Organization, Patricia Solomone from the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Argentina and the Ambassador Luis Domingo Mendiola from CARI - Argentina as well as Prof. Dr. Rıdvan Karluk (R) Ambassadors Murat Bilhan, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ali Engin Oba and Prof. Dr. Hasan Selçuk will be present in the 2nd Turkish – Latin American and Caribbean Congress.
For the honour of the participants of the Congress; Brasillian Ambassador Marcelo Andrade de Moraes Jardim will host a reception in the first night of the congress, and Mexican Ambassador Jaime Garcia Amaral will host a reception in the second night. In the first day, the rector of the Ankara University; and in the second day, the Ankara Trade Union will bring together the guests at a lunch in the honour of them.
