Civil Global Summit 2016 Istanbul Declaration (DRAFT)

Organized by TASAM (Turkish Asian Center for Strategic Studies) Civil Global Summit 2016, Discovery of the Potential: Capacity Management and Consolidation, which comprised 33 international events such as awards ceremony, continental and regional congresses, forums, conferences, sectoral diplomacy workshops and thematic meetings at global scale took place on 20-22 April 2016 in Istanbul with utmost participation and high success

Individuals, experts, researchers and academics from public offices, NGOs, private sector, diplomatic missions, think tanks, observatory institutions, and media from Turkey and abroad attended the summit.

The following events took place during the Summit which was organized in line with Turkey’s new national concept “Discover the potential and power“ and in order to channelize civil capacity at global level and forming networks around sectors.

9^th TASAM Strategic Vision Awards Ceremony
The awards, annually granted to statesmen, bureaucrats, business people, artists, journalists and scientists who makes effort to move Turkey above the standard of modern civilization, were delivered on the first evening of the summit.

CONTINENTAL EVENTS

2^nd Turkey - Africa NGOs and Thinking Forum
Organized simultaneously with the second Turkey - Africa Official Cooperation Summit, The forum was successfully held under the title of “Energy, Food, Water Security and Humanitarian Development in Africa“, in order to consolidate the cooperation between Turkish and African NGOs, to enhance the cooperation between Turkey and African countries in “energy, food and water security“, to develop interaction around civil society and thinking and to intellectually contribute to the solutions of problems.

7^th International Turkish - Asian Congress
The congress titled as “Trans-pacific Trade and Investment Partnership“ has been organized with the aim of intellectually contributing to policy-making which relevant countries need, and determining the impact of Trans-pacific partnership, along with other existing and possible regional platforms, on Asian Countries and Turkey.

5^th Turkey - Europe Forum
The forum titled as “Turkey - EU Civil Diplomacy Building: Capacity Building and Multi-dimensional Cooperation“ has been successfully organized with the aim of re-evaluating of EU-Turkey Civil Diplomacy Building and forming a network comprising academic circles and experts as well as think tanks, and intellectually contributing to developing EU-Turkey relations.

3^rd Turkish - Latin America and Caribbean Congress
The congress titled as “Strategic Cooperation and Los Turcos“ has been successfully organized with the aim of launching a debate concerning the approachment and strategic cooperation between Turkey and Latin American countries and developing the relations between Ottoman nationals who immigrated to Latin America and Turkey.

REGIONAL EVENTS

8^th International Balkan Forum
The congress titled as “Trade, Investment, Finance and Competition“ has been successfully organized with the aim of contributing to stability, welfare and mutual dependence of Balkans and developing the relations between Balkans and Turkey in next 10 years.

9^th Balkan Communication Network Conference
The conference titled as “Balance in Balkans, EU and, Turkey and Russia“ has been successfully organized as the sequel of annual meetings of Balkan Communication network which was founded in 2005 with the participation of Foreign Ministry’s Strategic Research Center, to consolidate interaction between research centers, since 2010.

International Black Sea - Caucasian Congress
The congress titled as “Economy, Energy, Security, New Opportunities“ has been successfully organized with the aim of bringing up suggestions on the future of regional security after the 2008 and 2014 crises, and contributing to the formation of discussion environment and public opinion.

International Mediterranean Congress
The congress titled as “Economy, Energy, Security, New Opportunities“ has been successfully organized with the aim of preventing conflicts concerning hydro-geopolitics and energy in Mediterranean and enhancing cooperation opportunities, contributing to conducting detailed studies over the region and Turkey which adopted the “New Mediterranean Vision“

“Migration in Turkey“ Conference
The conference titled as “Transformation of Opportunities and Risks in the Country from Emigrant to Immigrant“ has been successfully organized with the aim of contributing to official domestic and foreign policies concerning migration and migration-related issues, developing the policies towards EU-Turkey and neighboring countries, realist grassroots of bilateral and multilateral relations.
